I want to tell you a little bit more about
my beautiful city of Ormond Beach, simply because, I just
love it so much.
Ormond Beach is located in the North
Eastern shores of Florida. I continually find myself falling
in love all over again with this magical city, just like I
did ten years ago, when by cheer fluke or coincidence, I
happened to stumble upon it. It was my lucky day.
I had been at an all day business meeting
in Jacksonville. As I was heading south, towards the Boca
Raton area where I used to live, I realized I was getting
tired and not in much of a mood to drive 300 miles. I was
unfamiliar with the area; however, I followed a hunch to get
off I-95 at an exit that turned out to be US1. I had
no clue where I was. I wanted however, a place to
stay; and above all, I was dying for a cup of coffee.
As I was driving south on US1, I noticed a funny looking
place called: The Iron Horse Saloon. Ummm, I thought
to myself, “They must have coffee”. Remember now, I’m coming
from an all day business meeting; so, I’m dressed up in a
fully tailored, light pink business suit and high heels.
Well, The Iron Horse Saloon turned out to be a
hang-out for our local bikers, and needless to say, they
thought I was the strangest looking thing they’ve seen in a
long while. The scrutiny was intense but eventually they
went back to their pool game. Since I don’t intimidate
easily, (even though, there was a huge terrarium glass cage
displaying a few boa constrictors) I straightened out
my jacket and continue towards the bar where when asked what
did I want to drink, I said: “A cup of Coffee”,
there was dead silence for a few seconds, then, Jason
the bartender at the time, displaying many of his glorious
tattoos on his chest and arms replied in a loud voice:
“We have coffee and it is yesterday’s, do you still want
it?" I burst out laughing out loud as did everyone else.
It was friendliness at first sight. I did not have
“yesterday’s” coffee, however, what I did have was great
dialogue with folks who pointed me out to safe places to
stay the night, and they all wanted me to play pool with
them and buy me a drink. That’s the Day I fell in love with
Ormond Beach.
Six months later I called Ormond Beach my
Home. Now, it is also Home to my Business. I have made
tremendous long term connections, fabulous alliances and
have a group of great friends, who not only care, but
demonstrate it each time they have a chance. I’ve come full
circle!
